LASER TATTOO REMOVAL

What is the mechanism of Tattoo Removal?

Alma Q Laser offers a safe and effective solution for removing unwanted dark and multi-colored tattoos. By utilizing multiple laser wavelengths that target different ink colors, this advanced technology breaks down tattoo ink particles without causing significant scarring or hypopigmentation risks. The Q-Switched Nd: YAG 1064nm laser is particularly effective for darker ink colors like black, blue, and green, while the 532nm wavelength targets brighter ink colors such as red, orange, and yellow. During the tattoo removal procedure, laser light is directed onto the tattooed skin, specifically targeting the ink particles. This process selectively heats and shatters the ink particles, leaving surrounding skin tissue and chromophores unaffected.

What happens during the session?

Your skin will be cleansed, and a numbing cream will be applied before the procedure. Protective eye shields will be provided for your safety. The Alma Q laser is customized based on your tattoo color, skin tone, and the treated area. During the treatment, you may feel slight pain or a burning sensation. Mild redness and swelling may occur afterward. To alleviate any discomfort, an ice pack is applied immediately after the treatment. Additionally, an antibiotic cream is applied to protect the treated area.

How much time is required for recovery?

After the procedure, a crust will form on the treated area, typically taking about two weeks to naturally fall off. It's important to follow post-treatment care instructions until the scab completely heals. Keep the treated area clean, dry, and well-hydrated. Use the moisturizer recommended by your doctor to prevent post-procedure itching and dryness. Avoid scratching or picking at the scab to prevent infection and scarring. You can apply cool compresses or ice packs to reduce discomfort and inflammation. For approximately two weeks post-procedure, avoid hot tubs, swimming pools, or soaking, as they may interfere with the healing process. Protect laser-treated areas from sun exposure and wear sunscreen recommended by your doctor if you need to be outdoors.

Can you completely remove a tattoo?

Q-switched Nd: YAG laser or pico lasers can fully or partially remove tattoos, depending on the ink type, tattoo location, and how it was done. Tattoos made with black, green, or blue ink, positioned near the body's center, and done by professional tattoo artists, are generally easier to remove with laser treatment. Tattoos with red or yellow ink or located farther from the body's center may require multiple sessions for complete removal.

Does tattoo removal leave a scar?

Occasionally, a ghost shadow of the tattoo may remain after laser treatment. In rare cases, there may be mild skin atrophy, leading to textural changes. Fractional ablative lasers can help improve these textural changes for smoother skin after tattoo removal.

Do tattoo removal creams really work?

There is no scientific evidence supporting the claim that any cream can completely remove a tattoo. At best, these creams may lighten or fade the tattoo to some extent.

Are there any side effects of the tattoo removal procedure?

Laser treatment is often considered safer than many other tattoo removal methods like excision, dermabrasion, or salabrasion because it selectively targets the tattoo pigment with minimal side effects. In contrast, methods like mechanical or salabrasion carry a high risk of scarring, pigmentary changes (hyper- and hypopigmentation), and ink retention.
