MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling, also referred to as collagen induction therapy (CIT) or percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), is a minimally invasive procedure that involves the use of fine, short micro needles on a manual handheld device (Dermaroller) or a motorized device (Dermapen) to rejuvenate the skin or hair.

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling is a safe and effective method for stimulating collagen production and generating new collagen. The tiny needles on the Microneedling device create microinjuries on your skin or scalp. These injuries trigger the body's healing response, leading to increased production of collagen and elastin (proteins that give skin a plump and fresh appearance) and enhanced blood flow, delivering a fresh supply of nutrients that accelerate hair growth.

What is Derma pen?

Microneedling is traditionally carried out using a device called a "derma roller," which is a small handheld roller with attached needles. In modern times, we have an upgraded version known as the "Derma pen," a motorized pen-like device with needles. The Derma pen has demonstrated superior results compared to the derma roller due to its ability to provide uniform treatment.

What are the conditions treatable with Microneedling?

Microneedling is used as a treatment in following conditions:

  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Open pores
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Reduced skin elasticity
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Scar treatment
  • Dark spots and various types of pigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Hair thinning and alopecia
What happens before microneedling treatment?

Before beginning Microneedling, a local anesthetic cream will be applied to your skin for 30-45 minutes to ensure your comfort during the procedure. This step is omitted when treating the scalp.

How long does Microneedling take to heal?

After the procedure, a calming serum will be applied to your skin and hair, and you will receive sunscreen to apply before leaving the clinic. You may experience mild discomfort once the effects of the anesthetic wear off, but this is generally well tolerated. Your skin may appear red and swollen, but these effects will completely subside within 24-48 hours. You can use ice on the treated area after a few hours to ease any discomfort on the day of treatment. It's important to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen recommended by your doctor every day and reapply it every 3-4 hours to protect your skin and minimize the risk of any adverse effects.

Does Microneedling really work?

Microneedling creates microchannels in the skin that kickstart the process of new collagen synthesis, aiding in the improvement of scars, open pores, fine wrinkles, and skin tightening. The degree of improvement can vary from patient to patient based on the severity of their skin concerns and their skin type.

How long do the results last?

Following 3-4 treatments, in combination with medical therapy and a healthy lifestyle, results can persist for up to a year. However, maintenance treatments may be necessary in certain cases.

Are there any risks involved?

Like any aesthetic procedure, there is a slight possibility of side effects, although these are almost negligible when performed by an expert. If the post-procedure plan is not followed according to instructions, occasional redness or hyperpigmentation may occur, which typically resolves on its own within 15-20 days.
